Residents of Kwaso Denkyenso in the Ejisu Juabeng Municipality of the Ashanti Region are currently living in fear as their homes are invaded by snakes at night.

Hundreds of the black reptiles were killed in about seven houses just last night (Wednesday), a situation which has left the inhabitants full of trepidation.

The invasion started three days ago and peaks between 7:00 & 8:00 pm each night.
No snake bites have been recorded yet, but the resident say they just can’t go to bed peacefully as they are frightened to the core.

The residents are wondering how they are going to sleep in the coming days, due to the worrying development. Others have decided to keep wake at night to ward off or kill the snakes.

Assemblyman for the area, Frimpong Kwarteng in an interview with Kasapa News stated that they are shocked at the turn of events as the area has no thick bushes or forest from which the snakes could possibly have come from.

“We are stunned by this invasion of snakes. There are no over grown weeds and bushes around the town,  we are really at a loss where they came from. We have had sleepless nights since three days ago after the rains. By the time you realize you have these unwelcome visitors (snakes) already in your room. When you choose to sit outside, they gather at your feet. Someone killed 63, others killed 25 and 42 respectively and I killed 21 snakes just yesterday. The situation is very worrying and something needs to be done about it urgently” the Assemblyman noted.

Local authorities are yet to visit the town to access the situation and possibly fumigate the area.
