Thousands of young men and women have thronged the streets of the Volta Regional capital,  Ho, marching to announce their readiness to oust the Mahama-led NDC government from power as we approach the November polls. The organisers claim that the region has been taken for granted for far too long.

The youths, under the banner line ‘Me Dez) Na Tr)tr)’, to wit, “Let’s March For Change”, gathered en masse in front of the Coca Cola depot in Ho and marched on. Organisers say this is the first ever march in the regional capital.

“The numbers are shocking, we knew it would be a heavy crowd to control, but this is surprising, we didn’t expect such high numbers”, Eyram Doe, one of the organisers said.

“I have been in the house for the last two years, still taking ‘chop money’ from my parents, after the huge sums of money they paid for my school fees. We cannot continue this way, Volta Region deserves better, 2016 will be different”, Seyram Ahianyo, a frustrated trained nurse who has not been posted after two years of completion told this paper as she tirelessly marched on.

Volta Region has been the political ‘world bank’ of the NDC since the Fourth Republic, giving the party very comfortable numbers over the last five presidential and parliamentary elections in Ghana, but one of the poorest in terms of infrastructure.
