A
Police Constable, Felix Osei Bonsu is facing trial for sexually
assaulting a 16-year-old pupil at Mangu, a suburb of Wa, in the Upper
West Region.
He was arraigned before a Wa Magistrate’s Court and
remanded into police custody for further investigations to be conducted
into the case.
Osei Bonsu chased the Primary Five pupil to the
school premises and despite attempts by people around to stop him, he
went ahead and sexually assaulted her.
According to Deputy Upper
West Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP)
Shayibu Gariba, the victim, and a male friend were on their way to
attend to nature’s call when they encountered the policeman.
But when he asked the girl and boy where they were going, the boy, out of fear took to his heels, leaving her behind.
ACP Gariba said, Constable Osei Bonsu attacked the girl and she ran to a school nearby, but he pursued.
He
said Constable Osei Bonsu caught the girl and demanded to have sex with
her, because he thought the boy was going to do same with her. ACP
Gariba said a securityman and some people around tried to stop the
policeman from having sex with the victim, but he brushed them aside and
forcibly had sex with her.
A report was made to the police and
the girl was taken to the Wa Government Hospital where a medical
examination proved that she had been defiled. |
